Whether you are a man or a woman, capes are hot this fall season! Not just for the ‘caped crusader’, capes add an aire of sophistication and class to the wearer along with a veil of mystery. And the best part is these simple pieces of clothing keep you warm and ready for anything.
There are various types of capes that one can wear this Fall depending on weather and mood, the main three are the cape, the cloak, and the capelet. A cape in the broader sense is pretty much any form of outerwear that opens at the front, and has no sleeves – usually with slits for the arms instead. Capes can be cut in a full circle, or on the straight. Capelets are any type of short cape that covers the shoulders. A cloak is similar to a cape only generally longer – typically mid-calf but often as long as ankle-length. Cloaks tend to be completely sleeveless; rather wrapping around as an outerwear garment.
If the weather is slightly cool, but you want to look chic! This is the perfect weather for a capelet or a sweater that has capelet tailoring on the sleeves. For this Fall, I highly recommend any capelet that is flowy, sexy and feminine. Go for lighter materials that are layers such as chiffon or silk.
If the weather is chilly, but the you want to wear your outerwear all day! This is the time when you need to bring out a lightweight cloak. This knee-length piece can easily go from day to night if you purchase it in the right material. 2-ply cashmere, which can easily be layered but is never bulky, is a great choice for an in vogue cloak.
If the weather is cold, and you are stepping out for the evening! Bring out the big guns with a cape! An evening cape should be luxurious and probably embroidered or embellished in some way. Wool, cashmere, or blends of both are the perfect materials to get a fine cape and have it last forever.
Lesson learned? With the weather getting cooler, grab a capelet, cloak or cape to keep you warm!
