Posh & polish are the main elements of the retro trend of trapeze tops and skinny pants.  This pairing of a swinging blouse and easy skinny pants will look great on a variety of body types and is as effortless as it is chic.  Here are a few of my key tips on how to embrace this fashion trend like a pro.

• Go for a Cropped Trapeze Top.  Two important factors about your trapeze tops are that they are cropped (to the top of your hips) and that they are knit blouses.  These two elements are important since the cut of the blouse is already voluminous enough, so being cropped and knit will ensure ease of movement (the swinging action of the blouse) and to not make the trapeze top look bulky on your frame. Some trapeze tops I like are: Baby Phat Asymmetrical Trapeze Ruffle Top, Tommy Hilfiger Scarf Print Halter Top, and  Zoa Swing Sequin Wave Tank.

• Go for Waist-High Pants. Channel Audrey Hepburn when you go for a pair of skinny pants.  The pants should we waist high, in a dark slimming (slightly) stretchy fabric so as to both make you look taller (elongate your shape) and balance the proportions of the trapeze tops.

• Go for Flats.  Though I usually feel the higher the heel the better in footwear, for this particular trend, you want to stick with flats.  A great choice is a ballet-inspired flat in a pretty shade for Spring; these shoes add an extra touch of femininity and laid-back aire to the outfit.
