Ok, ok, ok, I know many of us fashionistas don’t think “trendy” stores are the right place to shop.  However, you can get some really swanky pieces and accessories at great prices. 

So your first question may be “What are “Trendy” stores?”  These are stores such as, Deb’s Dots, Rave, Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, Wet Seal, etc…you get the point.

So now that you are convinced to try out some of these stores, you may next be wondering “Where do I start?”

Ok, here is where you start:

1. Find Accents for your Basics.  This means start small with pieces like accessories (jewelry, sunglasses, etc.)  You can’t go wrong with small pieces!

2. Go for non-trendy looks.  Stay away from anything that is screaming Miley Cyrus or Gossip Girls!  You want to still look like a million bucks even though you may have spent only $20.  This means staying away from looks and pieces that are too “now”.  This will make your clothing go out of date really fast and waste money.

3. Go for colors you love.  You want to go for timeless basic pieces (jackets, t-shirts, blouses, etc.) in hues that you are really attracted to and that compliment other pieces in your existing wardrobe.

4. Buy seasonless separates and wear them weeks after buying them.  This is a huge key in purchasing from these stores!  Go for pieces that can be worn in one season and then put them in your closet and wait a few weeks or months before wearing the item.  This is so no one will be able to guess where you purchased your jacket/shirt/skirt from!
