If you, like me, are a woman who likes dresses then you are no stranger to the maxi dress.
The maxi dress is exactly what its name implies. It is a floor length dress that drapes the feminine form in a very delicate, flirty, or sexy way (depending on the cut of the dress). Being the shop-a-holic that I am, I have been on the hunt for some of the cutest summer maxi dresses that I can find. For the days when the perfect sundress is just a little too skimpy, the summer maxi dress is a modern yet bit more conservative look. My idea of the perfect summer maxi dress is one that isn’t too voluminous or plain. Hey, I am only 5′4″, so I have to be very careful when it comes to wearing floor length hemlines. My goal is to never look shorter!
Some great tips that I have found helpful when searching for the perfect summer maxi dress is to go vintage. This is a style that was very popular in the 70’s, so it is likely that you will find some great maxi dresses at consignment and vintage boutiques. Since print and color are absolutely a must for this season, a summer maxi dress with either a bold print throughout or in a bold color with a more demure print is a plus. If you are a bit vertically challenged like myself, then go for a summer maxi dress with a more concentrated print at the top (around the bust) and a less dense pattern or print on the skirt portion of the dress.
